Standalone: Ludus introduces a wireless, PC-free mode in its platform

The Standalone mode has arrived on the Ludus platform. Our health and safety training simulations with VR can now be used wirelessly, without the need to connect the headset to a computer.   

One of Ludus' goals with this new feature is to make the platform more accessible and convenient to use. It will no longer be tied to extensive hardware requirements, enhancing its portability and ease of deployment.  

However, the PC-connected mode (PCVR) will not disappear. Standalone is here to add value and expand the possibilities for our users, not to replace or eliminate the wired mode.  

What is Standalone in Virtual Reality? 

Standalone Virtual Reality (VR) headsets work independently, without needing to be connected to external devices. In other words, they are headsets that allow users to enjoy Virtual Reality experiences on their own. 

Additionally, programs, applications, or platforms must be compatible with the Standalone mode. This compatibility is the update Ludus has been working on, which has now been successfully incorporated into its service. 

What does the update to Standalone mode on the Ludus platform involve? 

Currently, the Ludus platform can be used in Standalone mode with three available products: Fire Extinguisher Use, Fire Hose Cabinet (FHC) Use, and First Aid. Soon, we will add another of our most popular simulations to this mode: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). 

Users with compatible headsets will be able to install the Ludus platform. Once installed, they can launch it directly from the headset menu. 

After logging in with their credentials, users can access the platform, which they can navigate using the VR headset controllers: 

• Install, uninstall, or update simulations. 

• Launch simulations to deliver training. 

• Set pre-simulation configurations: guided or non-guided mode, risks, exercises, scenarios, variables, and elements involved. 

• View the results panel. 

• Restart or end exercises, just like on the PCVR platform.  

Benefits of the Standalone mode 

Here are some of the advantages that Ludus' Standalone mode offers its clients: 

• Fewer equipment requirements to conduct training. 

• Greater portability: equipment is easier to transport and use, reducing travel costs. 

• Ease of deployment: easier to use the platform and access it via the headset store. 

• Cost savings: in addition to lower travel costs, the fact that computers are no longer required translates to reduced expenses. 

• Convenience: the platform can be installed from the store and used just like a mobile app. 

• Freedom of movement: eliminating the need for wires allows for a more comfortable user experience.
