Ludus Virtual Reality is used to enhance and dynamize health and safety training. Each simulation has its own peculiarities, but here we will offer some general recommendations on how to give risk prevention training with Virtual Reality.
Simulations allow workers to be confronted with realistic risk situations without endangering their health. Realism, immersiveness, risk experimentation, training statistics... the list of advantages goes on and on. Trainers can use the technology to provide face-to-face and guided, remote, individual or group training, with complete freedom.
Tips for providing health and safety training with Virtual Reality
As we mentioned, each technician can use this tool to provide training as they see fit. However, we will mention some general guidelines useful for a trainer when planning a training with Virtual Reality.
Steps prior to the use of VR
Before using the simulation with the trainees, it is interesting to make some previous steps:
- Theoretical basis: as in any training, the technician transfers the theoretical knowledge to the employees with the tools he considers appropriate. Videos, presentations... VR can also be useful for this step.
- Explain to employees what the tool is and how to use it. It is important that employees understand what Virtual Reality is and learn how to move and interact in the simulations.
- Choosing the first person to take part in the simulation. It is advisable, to begin with, to choose a student profile accustomed to the use of technologies or with a certain fondness for video games. Their ease will be greater, and their example will encourage the rest of the people to try the technology. Generally, the choice of these first people is simple, as they usually volunteer.
- Setting up the exercise: the trainer prepares the simulation by selecting the casuistry he/she considers appropriate for what he/she wants to teach. He can choose variables such as different scenarios, elements that will or will not appear, the tasks to be performed by the employee, risks present...
Possibilities during health and safety training with Virtual Reality
Virtual Reality offers multiple possibilities to trainers when they start the training. Throughout the simulation, the technician can guide the trainee, leave him free or ask him questions while performing the exercise, among other options. They can also apply role playing techniques in real time thanks to the different scenarios and cases offered by the tool.
Group training also benefits from the use of this technology. While an employee puts on the glasses and participates in the simulation, the trainer shares image and sound on a screen. Thus, the rest of the class gets involved in the training, either by answering questions or by guiding the person wearing the glasses.
Another feature that differentiates Virtual Reality is the possibility of adding variables in real time during the training. Simulations such as Ludus allow the introduction of elements that add realism to the experience. In the CPR exercise, the trainer can make a nervous person appear at any time , shouting and disturbing the trainee, increasing his stress.
Causing accidents' to raise employee awareness
Because they are living a first-person experience in a safe environment, workers can make mistakes that in reality would be fatal. Virtual reality also offers the possibility of virtual accidents, so that employees can see the consequences of the mistake they make.
For trainers, it is advisable and interesting to provoke these accidents during training. By seeing firsthand how irresponsible behavior can end up taking them to the hospital, the awareness of employees is increased. This possibility of experiencing sensations while learning is what we know as 'Learn by living'.

Finally, the trainer does not have to use the full VR simulation to deliver training. The technology is at his service, and he can stop the exercises whenever he wants, or use only the parts of the simulation that interest him. In this case, the operation is similar to that of videos. Sometimes a trainer uses only the parts of the video that are appropriate to what he wants to teach, without playing the whole video.
To get to use the technology in this way and get the most out of it, it is important to train with it in order to master it. Knowing which simulations are used, where each accident is... proactivity and practice are of great help.
Platform with multiple contents for health and safety trainers.
The Ludus platform has a catalog of 20 simulations and more than 500 exercises available to customers. Access to all content is unlimited. Ludus does not provide training, it offers technicians a new tool with which to differentiate themselves and transmit their knowledge.
According to data from the Ministry of Labor, around 10 workers suffer serious accidents every day in Spain alone. Adequate health and safety training is essential to protect the lives of employees.
