After conducting various tests, we are pleased to announce that the Ludus platform is compatible with the new Ultraleap Leap Motion Controller 2. Therefore, this new device can be used to track hands in Ludus simulations.

What is the Ultraleap Leap Motion Controller 2?

The Leap is a hand-tracking device compatible with devices like VR headsets. It is a system with cameras that recognizes the hands of the user wearing the headset and allows them to interact with digital content without the need for controllers.

Leap Motion Controller 2 is the new device from Ultraleap, released in the summer of 2023. Some of its main improvements include higher-resolution cameras, a wider field of view, and lower power consumption, all in a more elegant and compact device.

What is the Leap used for in Ludus simulations?

Primarily, the Leap is a necessary device for Ludus CPR simulations. Since it involves a cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) procedure practiced on a sensorized real bust, VR headset controllers are not used.

The Leap recognizes the user's hands to match the image of the hands seen in the simulation. This allows for more realistic training and learning of the cardiopulmonary resuscitation protocol.

Ludus' CPR simulation offers a wide range of possibilities for the trainer to conduct realistic training. A variety of virtual scenarios, real-time variables, the use of AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators), all focused on creating a realistic training experience.

When facing an emergency situation similar to a real one within an immersive first-person simulation, awareness is reinforced. The learner learns to perform the protocol in realistic stress situations, helping to avoid mental blocks later on.

Additionally, the simulation offers added advantages, such as real-time assessment of the rate and depth of compressions. The learner can correct their compressions in real time, checking if they meet appropriate parameters. This allows for the internalization of the process and training of muscle memory.
